Sanur Beach is situated in South Denpasar District, Denpasar City. It is located in east and south of Sanur Village that is the edge of Indonesian Ocean, south part of Bali Island. This place has been famous from long time ago, especially when the war of Puputan Badung on 20 September 1906 where the Dutch troops landed on this beach. In the history of ancient Bali, Sanur Beach is also famous and still there is an inscribed stone monument that is inscription of Kesari Warmadewa King who occupy his palace at Singhadwala at 917, which is now located in Blanjong, southern part of Sanur Beach. In the tourism industry, Sanur Beach had been firstly introduced by the Belgian Painter named A.J.Le Mayeur with his wife Ni Polok who settled in Sanur since 1937 and held the exhibitions with his own paintings.
The attraction of Sanur Beach in north circular like a half circle and turn it to the southern part from east to the west where the wave is not too big (relatively calm)and it will be visible the colorful rocks stretch along the beach when the low tide. In the southeast of this beach is seen the group of island called by Nusa Penida, meanwhile in the east seen the panoramic of Bali Strait with amazing Agung mount as a backdrop.
Serangan Island and peninsula of white stone hill are clearly visible in southern part of this beach. The atmospheres along the beach are light and shade cause by full of big tropical trees. The tourists are mostly very enjoyable with sunrise and sun bathing along the beautiful white sandy beach.
Sanur Beach is located around 4 km from the center of Denpasar City which can be reached by any vehicles. This beach is many visited by tourists from foreign countries and domestic especially during holiday season. On Sunday and public holidays, this site is appointed as a recreation place by Denpasar City residents for relaxation and swimming. On the full moon, there are many people do relaxation even bathing in the sea while enjoy the beautiful of night. Beside of it beach, The Le Mayeur Museum is also attracting many tourist to come.
The public facilities are available in Sanur are the international hotels such as Inna Grand Bali Beach, Bali Hyatt, Sanur Beach Hotel, Inna Sindhu Beach, Griya Santrian , Parigata Villas and many more. The various tourism facilities are mingled with other facilities for local communities, so Sanur is an open tourism area which is different with Nusa Dua. The beautiful shops sell the handicrafts and other souvenirs are plenty available. The other accommodations and restaurants are also many available those are always ready to serve for tourists. Sanur beside as a tourist palce. it is also appointed as a point for crossing the Bali Strait to Nusa Penida using local boat and surf spots which are available at the shore break.
